Viña Requingua is a family winery located in the area of Sagrada Familia, in Curico Valley, Chile, which was founded by Santiago Achurra-Larraín in 1961. At that time, only 50 hectares of vineyards were planted at our Sagrada Familia Estate, and vinification’s facilities consisted on a small 400,000-liter winery with wooden tanks and dirt floors.
Today, the Company handles over 1,055 hectares of vineyards located in the Colchagua, Curicó and Maule Valleys, and our wine cellar has a capacity of 18 million liters, which fully correspond to stainless steel. Additionally we have a barrel room that currently houses 4.000 barrels barrels of French and American oak.
Our vineyard’s appellations enjoy a Mediterranean climate. Winters are cold and rainy while summers are warm during the day and cool at night, mostly due to the cold air coming down from the Andes Mountains, a condition that is perfect for good maturation of the aromas and polyphenols of our grapes.
In addition to having ideal weather conditions for optimal development of fruit, our grapes are grown in different soil types that define the personality of each wines.
The vineyards have been planted at different stages, being the oldest 60 years old, with classical varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Merlot, Syrah, among others.
The newest plantings were made on rootstocks and varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir were planted with clones that were chosen according to the conditions of our terroir.
Currently, the Achurra family remains closely linked to all its customers and employees, this time through its General Manager, Santiago Achurra-Hernandez, son of the winery’s Founder
